Children from all over Japan make origami cranes to be placed at the Childrens Shrine in the Hiroshima Peace Park.
There is an old Japanese folktale that if you fold 1000 cranes you are granted a wish, of course with the cranes placed at the shrine in Hiroshima the wish is always for the disarmament of nuclear weapons and peace.
