11-13 January 2011 Brisbane has the largest flood since 1974. The river was due to peak at 4am on the 13th. This photo was taken just after 4am near the Gateway Bridge.
As the tidal river peaked the water slowed. It had been rushing earlier that day during the low tide with all the flood water going out to sea. So much debris had made its way out to Morton Bay in the previous 48 hours.
Nice to know that even amongst all the deluge all over Brisbane and Queensland, something beautiful exists.
